Hello RaiDrive Team,
I use RaiDrive Essential to mount my Google Drive – “Shared with Me” folder as a local drive (e.g., M:).
My workflow is based on a very large music library (over 600,000 tracks) with VirtualDJ.
The problem is that reading tags (BPM, artist, title) is very slow — around 1 track per second — when VirtualDJ scans the folder.
This causes very long waiting times, since a single folder may contain 10,000 songs.
My questions are:
- Is there any setting to improve tag reading speed (cache, different protocol, API optimization)?
- Is it possible to enable a faster access mode than WebDAV?
- What is the best cache/buffer configuration for very large libraries, without filling up local disk space?
Thanks for your support!

Hi, @Dj_Adriano_AdiMix
Thank you for using RaiDrive.
Because RaiDrive is a virtual file system, it doesn’t have the ability to transfer specific file information.
When a read request is received for a specific portion of a file, it simply downloads it and then transfers it.
Therefore, the speed is inevitably very slow.
Google Drive, in particular, is considerably slower than other cloud services, so it will take even longer.
-
Currently, there is no way to improve the speed.
Because it depends on the characteristics of the virtual file system and Google’s slow speed, RaiDrive settings or protocol changes cannot improve the speed.
-
GoogleDrive is very slow, so it can’t be faster than WebDAV.
GoogleDrive has a request limit, so frequent requests will hit the limit and slow things down even further.
-
If RaiDrive doesn’t store file information in a local cache, every file IO request will result in a download, resulting in even greater slowdowns.
Speed cannot be improved by setting a temporary cache or other settings.
Please keep the cache lifetime as long as possible in your cache settings.
Please refer to the link below:
Please note that any cached data will be deleted when you disconnect the drive.
(We are currently researching a feature that will retain the cache for a long time even when the drive is disconnected)

Thank you
