Better Discription of Share with others

Hi folks,
Looking for a little more clarity on the “share” feature. Personally and professionally, I see great usage for this app and have recommended it several times. I am likely to sub very soon, but this share feature description is eluding me. I read the few topics on “shared” here and still do not fully understand. I hope to get answers and maybe get the devs to expand their explanation on the site side. The idea of sharing sounds like 1 title and at least 2 users, so I have a few questions that hinge on how this all gets answered.

  1. Can 1 title be “shared” by multiple people?
    1. If yes, how many people can share it?
      1. Are we just sharing the perks of our subscription (like Amazon Prime)?
      2. Does the sharee get to see some of my account details and such along with the perks, or are the accounts still separated?
    2. If not, does this mean that you “share” additional titles that you purchased while being a “master” account?
      1. Is there a limit?
      2. What is shared between the master and sub-account?
      3. Lastly, if this is the case, isn’t “shared” the wrong term here for what this feature is?

Chat soon!

Cheers folks!

Hi @demonrich,

Great questions! The Share with others feature can indeed be confusing at first glance, so let me clarify.

It’s License (Subscription) Sharing, not content/file sharing. When you share, you’re sharing the benefits of your paid subscription plan with another person — not your drives, files, or account details.

To answer your specific questions:

  • Can one subscription be shared by multiple people?
    • Yes.
    • As the subscription owner, you can invite others by email through Account → Share → Invite in the RaiDrive app.
  • Are we just sharing the perks? (like Amazon Prime)
    • Exactly.
    • The invited person gets access to the same plan features you have — such as no ads, unlimited drives, fast copy/move/delete, bandwidth control, etc. Your Amazon Prime analogy is spot on.
  • Are accounts still separated?
    • Yes, completely.
    • Each person signs in with their own account. The person you’ve shared with cannot see your drive configurations, storage connections, or any account details. They simply receive the same subscription-level features on their own separate account.

One important note: RaiDrive uses a session-based licensing model. You’re licensed for the number of concurrent active sessions, not the number of devices. So if you purchase, say, 1 session license and share it, only one person can use the paid features at a time. If you need multiple people using it simultaneously, you’ll need to purchase additional session licenses accordingly.

Hope this clears things up! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

That clears up a lot, actually, thank you! Additionally, I’d like to clear up if the share list is also used to share additional titles purchased. I saw we can buy many, therefore unless my account can’t use my sub perks on both my laptop and pc at the same time, then this seems like the right use. Right?

  1. If I have 4 titles, can I “share” 3 and become a “master” account?
  2. If so, is there a limit to how many I can have/share?
  3. Lastly, can I revoke them as I see fit?

RaiDrive uses a Floating License model. One license allows one simultaneous session, not one device. So if you want to use RaiDrive on your laptop and PC at the same time, you need two licenses — not two separate plans.

You don’t need to purchase multiple plans (Starter, Individual, etc.). Instead, you simply increase the number of Floating Licenses within your existing subscription via https://pay.raidrive.com/subscription.

To answer your specific questions:

  • There is no ‘master account’ concept, just only subscription owner.
  • You can adjust (add or reduce) the number of floating licenses through the subscription management page.
  • If you only use one device at a time, one license is sufficient regardless of how many devices you install it on.

okay okay…to expand:
If I wanted to share licenses with, say, 10 people, can I do that? Is there a share limit?
Additionally, can I limit the number of titles each share can use?
How about unshare with them if I so choose? Does that happen immediately? If they are using a title, will it kick them off?

There are no limits on the number of shares.

To stop sharing, simply kick the active member and remove them.

Good info. Another thought:

I have 2 PCs connected, let’s say “a” and “b”. If PC “a” is connected 1st but isn’t actively doing anything, while PC “b” starts to actually use its connection to transfer data. Will the title activate on the one in use, or whichever is signed in 1st?
